Milo Matthieu

Milo Matthieu (born 1990 in Los Angeles, CA) is a first-generation Haitian-American painter and mixed-media artist currently based in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up between Los Angeles and New York, he was immersed in the arts from a young age through museum visits and performances, which instilled in him an appreciation for the philosophies behind historical art movements.
Matthieu's work is deeply informed by his Haitian heritage, drawing inspiration from the traditional Haitian paintings and African masks that decorated his childhood home. While he didn't grow up in Haiti, these artifacts helped shape a rich "Haitian imaginary" that is central to his practice.
