Maarten De Ceulaer (°1983) is a Belgian artist and designer.
His practice is driven by a curiosity for materials, techniques and forms of making, and by a desire to create work that engages the imagination as much as the senses.
Rather than working within a fixed style or medium, he sees each project as the beginning of a new universe, with its own ideas, references, materials and techniques.

He moves freely between experimentation and craftsmanship, often using materials and production methods in unconventional ways, developing new skills himself while also collaborating with specialized craftspeople.

His works often begin with a familiar object, image, material or personal experience, which he transforms into something with a different character and meaning.
While some works retain a functional purpose, function is not necessarily the starting point or the endpoint.
He is equally interested in the emotional response an object can provoke, and in its ability to trigger memories, associations or a sense of wonder.
De Ceulaer studied Interior Design at Sint-Lukas in Brussels before continuing at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where he graduated in 2008.
His graduation project, A Pile of Suitcases, brought him international attention and marked the beginning of his career.
His work has since been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, fairs, festivals and biennials, and is held in public and private collections. 

His work has received numerous awards, including the Belgian Young Designer Award in 2007, the Henry van de Velde Award for Young Talent in 2013 and Belgian Designer of the Year in 2025. Alongside his design practice, De Ceulaer is increasingly focusing on unique and self-produced works, with an expanding body of work that further explores the relationship between art, design, material and craftsmanship.
